A Kpop dance competition
The NärCon Kpop Competition is a stage for Kpop cover dancing and a new place to show off your skill and love for the Kpop music genre. In this competition you and your friends will compete against other dance troupes in performing the best Kpop dance routine as close to the original song and choreography as possible.
The Winners
The winning troupe of this year’s competition will receive a luxurious trophy to bring home. In addition, by request from our previous contestants, we have added trophies for second and third place!

About the competition
About the competition
We welcome you to the Main Stage where the NärCon Kpop Competition will be held at NärCon Sommar 2022! It is a competition in Kpop cover dancing where we will select a winning dance group.The winning troupe of this year’s competition will receive a luxurious trophy to bring home. In addition, by request from our previous contestants, we have added trophies for second and third place!
- Performance length: Max. 5 minutes. (including intro and performance)
- Type of song: The song selection must be from a Korean artist. Remixes are ONLY allowed if it already has an existing choreography. The remix must be an official remix and follow the other rules of the competition.
- Dance: The dance routine MUST be the same as the original artist choreography. If the group chooses to do a cover of a remix, the remix HAS to have an existing choreography.
- Cost: Free to enter, but every member of the troupe needs to have a valid ticket to NärCon Sommar 2022 (day passes for the day of competition are valid).

Application and rules
Any group who wants to compete may apply by sending us an email with the information listed below. No previous experience in Kpop dancing or cover dancing is required. Each team applying for the competition will be evaluated by a pre/jury and the final participants will be selected to compete in the competition.
The judging of the performance is divided into five categories:
- Technique 0-7 points
- Clothing and overall appearance 0-7 points
- Synchronization, formations and uniformity 0-7 points
- Stage charisma 0-7 points
- Intro 0-2 points
During your performance, the song your group has selected will be played. You also have the possibility to have the music video or your own animation played in the background on our big LED-screen. Details regarding sound, music, graphics etc. will be provided to you if you are accepted into the competition.
The application shall contain the following information:
Send us the following information to kpop@narcon.se before July 8:
- The name of your group
- Contact information to the leading member of your group
- First- and surname
- Your pronoun
- Phone number
- E-mail address
- Information about the song you will perform (Group, song and link to music video/choreography)
- A description of your planned performance.
- An audition video for the pre-judges to evaluate. This needs to be uncut and a full front view facing the dancers. The audition video may be sent to us later than the other information, but must be handed to us before the application deadline.
If your group is accepted then you will need to provide the following
- A file with the music/song that will be played during your performance
- The video/animation that will be played during your performance in a standard readable format
- Your wishes regarding stage lightning
- Information about whether you are going to use props or not
- Information about whether you need help, from your own assistants or from our stage hands
- A group photo or a logo from your dance group for us to post on social media. (anyone under the age of 18 needs their guardian's permission, papers will be sent out)
Detailed rules
These are the official rules for the NärCon Kpop Competition
Group size and number of members
- All group members must go through the preliminary audition round (video)
If the group proceeds, the group members cannot be switched, added or deducted. In case of emergencies like sickness or accidents, contact the competition organizers.
Song selection / performance
- Two groups are not allowed to perform the same song. The group to inform a certain song first will be entitled to perform it.
There may NOT be more than two groups performing from the same artist. The group to inform a certain artist first will be entitled to keep it.
The song selection must be from a Korean artist. Allowed languages are Korean, Japanese, Chinese and English.
The overall performance can include an introductory part. This is recommended for extra points. Quality of the editing will not be judged since this is about its content and not about technical knowledge.
The maximum length of the intro part is 60 seconds / 1 minute.
The overall maximum length of a performance (intro + main song) is 5 minutes.
The group can choose to include original choreography to the intro part of the performance, but this is in no way a requirement as it will not be judged. Walking up on stage directly after the intro is enough.
Evaluation criteria
The judging of the performance is divided into five categories:

- Stage charisma 0-7 points
- Intro 0-2 points
The song selection for NärCon Kpop Competition must be the same song that the group earned their participation with at audition. You are not allowed to change songs without the host's permission.Instructions for the audition
- The video must be taken from the front view with a single shot with a steady, fixed spot camera. No cuts or transmissions
- All dancers must be fully visible during the entire video
- No stage performance recordings. Take one from dance practice (With or without stage outfit).
- The video should be as clear and simple as possible (no editing, no flashing lights etc.)
- Maximum length 2 minutes (allowed to be exceeded by a few seconds due to editing)
- The file format must be playable on a standard computer with no external programs needed.
